Article: Montrose Chemical to urge judge to bar cities' pollution settlement. (Montrose Chemical Corp.; Los Angeles County)

Attorneys for Montrose Chemical Corp. say they will urge a federal court judge to reject a settlement in which 150 Southland cities and agencies would pay $45.7 million to clean up Santa Monica Bay. The settlement is the largest ever in an offshore environmental contamination case.

The Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County, operator of the sewage treatment plant which pumped toxics DDT and PCB into the waters off the Palos Verdes Shelf, should be "the star player" in the case, not Montrose, said David Mullikan, a Latham & Watkins attorney who is defending the chemical company.
