Sustained capacity expansion
China has more than 70 PP (polypropylene) producers with nearly 90 units today. The total capacity is around 4.75 million t/a. Several PP units will be constructed or expanded in China in the next two years and the total capacity is expected to reach around 6.5 million t/ a in 2006. The supply shortage of PP in China will be eased to a considerable extent at that time.
The average annual growth of the PP consumption was around 13.2% from 1999 to 2004. China has become the biggest PP consumer in the world. In spite of a rapid development, the PP output still can not meet the domestic demand and the self-sufficiency rate is ...
