The government-owned Aqaba Railway Corporation (ARC) is preparing a project to link the Shidiya phosphate mines to the railway network. Consultants have been invited to prequalify to review all previous studies and prepare new designs for the project. The ARC is also trying to diversify its activities away from the phosphates sector by promoting Maan as a national and international transit point.
The Shidiya rail extension involves about 39 kilometres of main line and nine kilometres for sidings and mid-stations. The line will run from the phosphate mines to the railway at Batn al-Ghoul, south of Maan, where the Aqaba railway meets the Amman-Hejaz railway. The cost of ...
