NEW YORK--The competition is heating up in the dentifrice segment of the oral care category, and the stakes are high. Much of the activity has been spawned by the success of the Arm & Hammer line of toothpastes formulated with baking soda.
While most of the big suppliers in the toothpaste market initially dismissed Arm & Hammer's 1988 introduction as a passing fad, that fad has proved to have impressive staying power. Now, other manufacturers are scrambling to share in baking soda's success.
