Look like gang members or fashion plates -- or just keep your crown warmed
Lea Romonek, a distinguished-looking woman now in her 90s, has never considered herself dressed unless she is wearing a hat and wore a splendid one whenever she attended the meetings of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art's costume council, says Sandy Rosenbaum, assistant curator for the museum's Doris Stein Research and Design Center.
Romonek's children honored her in 1992 by giving the museum a grant to gather together all its hats and hat memorabilia -- hence the Lea Romonek Hat Archive, which now boasts a collection that includes limited edition hat journals, patents and scrap ...
