All students are vulnerable to the effects of tragic events. Students with disabilities are often more vulnerable to stress due to cognitive difficulties in understanding the events, low self-esteem, difficulties managing change, or the absence of social supports to help them cope. Teachers of students with disabilities need to be adept at assisting students in managing their stress. In the uncertain times in which we live, teachers must be prepared to facilitate the processing of events that often make no sense to anyone.
