On two floors of a not-so-new building close to Uster Stadthaus, is the Japanese primary school. Curious about its origins, I logged on to its website. "Sorry, Japanese only"--was the only sentence in English. And this statement held true of the teaching methods, syllabi and the general code of conduct within the school, too.

Swiss News wanted to cover this unique school for our readers. So a few interesting phone calls were made that lead from despair to hope.

Phone call number one: hurdle--no one spoke English! Phone call number two: hope--someone did speak a smattering of English and some German; hurdle--she wasn't available.
