Third DNA Damage Pathway Found.(Brief Article)(Editorial)

New research suggests that blocking a particular protein may make it possible to increase the sensitivity of cancer cells to chemotherapeutic agents, allowing dose decreases and thus limiting the toxic side effects associated with high doses. The researchers used RNA interference (RNAi) to demonstrate their theory.

The work, performed by researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Center for Cancer Research, led by Michael Yaffe, MD, PhD, associate professor of biology, points to a protein called MAPKAP kinase-2.
