If you are just starting out in genetics research, or if you have been patiently doing your work in a remote and isolated monastery in the Austrian Alps for the past 15 years, you could be excused for not knowing anything about the Vogelstein group at the Kimmel Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. Otherwise, it seems impossible to find researchers in our community who have not in some way been affected by the work done by these people.
Knowing that the group plays as hard as it works, and has (shudder) fun while doing both, is difficult to take. Most of us like to think that cutting-edge science is ...
