Sep. 14--DOVER -- A small proposed development just south of Smyrna recently became the first to take advantage of a two-year-old Kent County ordinance to accept cash in lieu of recreational space.

Kent County Levy Court approved Danfield Estates, a 7.5-acre, 19-unit proposed development north of Sunnyside Road in April.

The subdivision, developed by Dan Moody of Middletown, had originally planned a half-acre for a swing set, benches, picnic tables and trees.
