Flexibility proves profitable for large firms.(business enterprises plan to keep their human resources happy)

After ushering in workplace flexibility programs, 10 large employers have reaped sizeable economic gains this year. Programs such as teleworking, flextime and compressed workweeks resulted in decreased overtime, fewer unscheduled absences, increased productivity, and more efficient work processes.

Each firm increased productivity by 5% to 10%, according to Harvey Thomson, senior consultant for The BOLD Initiative, a workplace diversity advocacy organization that arranged pilot programs for these companies, including Johnson & Johnson, PepsiCo, Nextel Communications, Prudential Financial, Puget Sound Energy, Macy's Northwest and Weyerhaeuser Company.
