Mobile carriers and software developers are hoping subscribers are willing to pay them to access each other's content. But what place user-generated content has in wireless-and how such applications might generate revenues-is far from clear.
User-generated content has exploded on the Internet in recent years. Sites such as MySpace.com and Friendster.com helped establish viable business models based on lively forums where users can post photos, meet other users and establish communities based on shared interests.
While many such offerings are free to end users, revenues from advertisers can be substantial. Internet giant Yahoo! bought Flickr ...
