Coinstar Inc. announced today it is offering gift certificates from Amazon.com in its green kiosks at about 3,500 stores. Amazon is the first online merchant to team with Coinstar, joining Starbucks, Hollywood Video, Pier 1 Imports, and Linens 'N Things as merchants offering gift cards or certificates for consumers cashing in coins (CardLine 8/9). Consumers who trade in their change for a gift card or certificate pay no coin-counting fee, typically 8.9% per dollar counted when change is turned in for cash.
