Sep. 15--ARE YOU PORT SAVVY? Think you know the ports?

I did.

When I took over this beat three years ago, I made a point of telling my editor that I was very familiar with the ports. After all, I'm a native Savannahian. I grew up watching the big ships glide up and down the river. I know port from starboard.

It wasn't long before I realized I knew next to nothing about those hulking ships -- and even less about what it takes to get them from Point A to Point B.
