Sep. 16--It doesn't take long to realize Richard Hell looks at the world through a poet's eye.
After an exchange of pleasantries about the weather, Hell asks about Portland and offers up this description:
"I see it as a kind of paradise, with idyllic weather. The whole presentation given to the visitor is like one of those dreamy covers from noir films or Beatnik road novels."
OK, so Hell must have visited on a good day, when the Willamette River wasn't overflowing with sewage. Or maybe thinking in images and relating to different media comes naturally to a man who defined the look (spiked hair, torn clothes), sound ...
