Florida has known only too well the destructive power of hurricanes.
But while New Orleans is embarking on the long process of reconstruction after Katrina, the Sunshine State is largely unaffected - apart from taking in refugees.
And now it can look forward to a busy winter.
The state's great attraction, often overlooked by British travellers, is that it is the perfect winter sun destination. Orlando can be like hell on Earth during August, with 100-degree temperatures, almost 100 per cent humidity and afternoon thunderstorms.
