To land at Tunis Carthage airport is to step through a gateway into ancient history, to touch on Hannibal and the Roman world of around 2,000 years ago.
We are taken to our hotel and shown to spacious rooms overlooking the sea.
From our balcony we can also see palm trees and gardens, terraces and a pool, and we enjoy the slightly Moorish architecture and design of the Residence Hotel.
Our first outing is to Carthage, passing a stone aqueduct with water storage tanks made in AD 60.
