Sep. 19--GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- A walk down seed-corn row at Husker Harvest Days reveals a multitude of established seed companies that Nebraska farmers have relied on for years, if not generations.
A closer look, however, shows that many of the traditional seed companies are now owned by large corporations based outside Nebraska. Golden Harvest, for instance, is a Syngenta company. NC+ Hybrids earlier this year became part of Channel Bio, a division of American Seeds Inc., which itself is a division of Monsanto Co. Fontanelle Hybrids also is owned by American Seeds.
