Sep. 22--WASHINGTON -- Grappling with a recent federal court ruling that some believe may jeopardize or alter the federal role in regulating Indian casino gaming, Sen. John McCain said Wednesday that a federal regulatory presence should be protected.
McCain, R-Arizona, was one of the senators who wrote the Indian Regulatory Gaming Act 17 years ago.
"When we contemplated an Indian Gaming Regulatory Act, we clearly contemplated an Indian Gaming Commission," McCain said during a hearing of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee, which he chairs.
