The publisher of the Twin Cities-area Sun weekly newspapers and the daily Stillwater Gazette has begun an expansion into suburban Washington, D.C.
The purchase of 105,000-circulation Suburban Washington Newspapers Inc. puts the combined circulation of American Community Newspapers in Eden Prairie close to 1.1 million.
The company, which publishes three daily papers and 70 weeklies, last month bought two Sun Gazette papers serving five northern Virginia communities, including Arlington, and two monthly publications.
