In a sudden move amid recent, formal allegations of sexual harassment, Overture Center President Bob D'Angelo retired Tuesday.

D'Angelo, Madison's most prominent cultural leader who led the Madison Civic Center and now the Overture Center for the Arts for nearly 15 years, announced the retirement in a three-paragraph letter to Mayor Dave Cieslewicz.

The 61-year-old D'Angelo had renegotiated a new three-year contract this year that included a $118,300 salary -- making him among the city's highest-paid employees.
