LaVern Van Dyke called them "the darkest years of my whole life" -- the five football seasons between 1965 and 1969 during which Milt Bruhn resigned under pressure and John Coatta was fired at the University of Wisconsin.
During that inglorious stretch, the Badgers were 5-13-2 under Bruhn in his final two seasons and 3-26-1 under Coatta in his only three seasons as the UW's head coach.
