Sep. 22--McDonald's Corp. in a few days created and staffed a new 100-member division at its Oak Brook headquarters--one that has nothing to do with selling hamburgers.
The burger giant is instead focusing manpower on finding and helping thousands of workers in the region devastated by Hurricane Katrina. With more than 4,000 employees from both franchise- and company-owned restaurants still missing, more than half of its 8,000 workers there, it's a full-time effort with no end in sight, executives said.
