Louise Jacobbi, a well-known figure in the transplant community and longtime resident of New Orleans, managed to get out of the city before Hurricane Katrina struck. However, she is still not back in her home, which suffered major water damage and now faces a growing problem with mold.

"When we knew New Orleans was going to take a direct hit and was going to be in jeopardy, we boarded up the house and headed north to a family in Hammond," Jacobbi told Transplant News. "The traffic was so bad that was normally a 45-minute drive took four and a half hours."
