That's the advice offered by David Poor, regional vice president of AAA.

Poor said everyone is bracing for a run-up in gasoline prices as a result of Hurricane Rita, which by Thursday had already disrupted refinery operations in Texas and other Gulf Coast states as refineries were shut down in preparation for the storm's arrival.

A quarter of the United States' total refining capacity could be disrupted by the storm, according to the Oil Price Information Service.
