Chief Minister Dr. the Honourable D. Orlando Smith has promised to oversee the swift introduction of rigid firearms legislation in the Territory. The Chief Minister made the commitment in a statement to the people of the Territory on Wednesday evening, while announcing his Government's seven-point action plan on crime. "I am going to personally oversee the swift introduction of legislation to strengthen the regulation of firearms in the BVI," the Chief Minister said. He described gun crimes as a "foul and evil scourge" in the Territory, adding that guns have no place in the BVI and that Government will pass the necessary laws to make sure they are kept out forever.
