Native Women I Know
For Frances, Melissa, Julie, Cathy, Tina, Bobbi, Lori, Faye,
Gaynelle, Lacy, Kayla ...
They controlled our bodies for a few brief moments
and devastated the rest of our lives
We wear the violence
like a hair shirt
for sins never committed
We cannot move
without remembering
We cannot sleep
without seeing
them over us
We cannot love
hate
or
feel

anymore
We walk through life numb
And they did this
to prevent us from
being strong
They stomped out
our will
to live
All the native women I know
All the native women I love
Are ...
