The town of Pelham contains the villages of Pelham and Pelham Manor and is located 20 miles north of midtown Manhattan. It is currently working on developments, intended to bring new residents, as well as attract more business to the town's largely vacant commercial area. Helping to attract these new businesses will be the Pelham Picture House, an historic movie theater that was opened in 1921. The theater still shows movies, but the group Pelham Picture House Preservation Inc. has arranged to purchase it with the intent of turning it into an educational and cultural center.
