Financial services on sideline at Hawaii talks.

Sep. 27--Thai and US trade negotiators yesterday began a fifth round of free-trade talks in Hawaii with several issues expected to be covered before negotiations end on Friday.

However, specific negotiations on financial sector liberalisation will not be on the agenda as neither side wants to get bogged down in what is a particularly sensitive issue for Thailand.

Washington has expressed its desire to see liberalisation of the insurance, asset management and investment advisory service sectors under the free trade area (FTA) accord with Thailand.
