FISH fingers, the humble staple of every British kitchen, are celebrating their 50th birthday this week.
The dish was invented in Great Yarmouth 1955 by American scientist and explorer Clarence Birdseye, who was trying to crack the British
market.
He had the idea of freezing fish while working as a biologist in the Arctic circle of Canada - and his fish fingers were an instant success.
