AMONG THE MOST SALIENT REQUIREMENTS for professional practice, the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) and the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) assign the very highest priority to multicultural competencies. The attitudes, knowledge, and skills required to attain these competencies are delineated prominently in the CSWE (2001) Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards and the NASW (2001) Standards for Cultural Competence in Social Work Practice.
