The National Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Association has asked mayors and governors nationwide to declare March the Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Awareness Month. Medical Update strongly encourages this effort.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCP, formerly called the Communicable Disease Center and then, until recently, the Centers for Disease Control) estimate that between one and 10 of every 10,000 persons in this country are afflicted with this distressing disease. They point out, however, that only a minority of patients who seek medical attention because of chronic fatigue actually have chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS).
