Responding to the demand of 40 CEOs from the industry to open up the food retail sector for foreign investment, he said the issue was being discussed in the government so that a consensus can emerge on what policy should be adopted to make the sector more competitive and generate employment.
Addressing the CEOs at the meeting here, the Prime Minister assured them that states would be encouraged to amend the Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee Act at the earliest, PM's Media Advisor Sanjay Baru told reporters.
