As other Coon Rapids girls' basketball fans were watching Chelsea Lyons run, pass and score last season, Jeff DeJoy was doing calculations in his head.
What DeJoy, the Cardinals' girls' soccer coach, came up with went like this: Lyons' quickness plus her athleticism and tenacity on the court equaled potential success as a forward on the field.
Convincing Lyons, who had been Coon Rapids' starting varsity goalkeeper for two years, to try forward was a tough sell.
"I told him he was crazy," she said. "But I thought, `If I stink, I've got an excuse because I've never played in the field before.'-"
