CHELSEA FC owner Roman Abramovich today made [pounds sterling]7.4 billion in an oil deal.

The money generated will cause concern among football rivals struggling to compete with the buying power of the Premiership champions.

Before the deal, in which he sold his 76 per cent stake in energy firm Sibneft, the 38-year-old Russian was valued at [pounds sterling]8.6billion.

The funds raised today are enough to buy Chelsea, acquired in 2003 from Ken Bates for [pounds sterling]140 million, more than 450 times over.
