Seed Brands Sell.(American Seeds Inc)(Brief Article)

In September, Monsanto Company subsidiary American Seeds Inc. (ASI) bought five seed companies for $52 million in cash. Together, the companies have about 1% of the U.S. corn seed market.

Four of the companies are members of an alliance called the Core Group. These include Fontanelle Hybrids of Fontanelle, Neb.; Stewart Seeds of Greensburg, Ind.; Stone Seeds of Pleasant Plains, Ill.; and Trelay Seeds of Livingston, Wis. In a fifth transaction, ASI bought Specialty Hybrids of West Lafayette, Ind.
