Clyde Coenen said he never thought he'd have the honor of speaking to the Wisconsin Assembly.

But it was the Assembly that honored Coenen on Tuesday as it presented a resolution to the 89-year-old Appleton resident honoring the "mighty" Eighth Air Force and proclaiming Oct. 8-14 as Eighth Air Force Week.

During that week in 1943, the Eighth lost more than 150 heavy bombers to enemy fire in the skies of Europe in World War II.
