The federal government has rejected Utah's final objection against a temporary nuclear waste facility in the state.
The Nuclear Regulatory Agency authorized a license for Private Fuel Storage LLC to build and operate a nuclear waste repository in Skull Valley, Utah.
"Without it, we could not proceed. Without it, we could not market the facility,'' said Jay Silberg, an attorney with Pillsbury, Winthrop, Shaw, Pittman LLP who is representing Private Fuel Storage. "So this is obviously an extraordinarily big step in the process.''
