Reluctant consensus growing on EU sugar reform.(Agriculture Council)

Reform of the EU sugar regime engendered the most discussion at this month's Agriculture Council, even though it had been removed from the main agenda and sidelined into an informal meeting.

A general consensus on the need for reform of the EU sugar regime began to emerge from a meeting of EU and non-EU stakeholders in the debate in Brussels this week.

The meeting, held in the fringes of the EU Agriculture Council on Monday and Tuesday, brought together the European Commission and representatives from the African Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) region and Least Developed Countries (LDC).
