Not many will recall the name of this column's featured vehicle or its maker, the Durant, manufactured by Durant Motors of Flint, Mich. It is an ironic car company, this "son" of General Motors, a company that might never had been had its founder's earlier luck held.
Durant Motors was formed in 1921 by William "Billy" Crapo Durant, a consummate salesman whom Walter P. Chrysler said "could charm songbirds out of trees," and the man who founded General Motors in September 1908 with capital of $2,000.
