Rainbow Programming Holdings Inc. wants to bring romance to cable television -- Romance Classics, that is -- and so far, operators seem rather receptive to the wooing.

Slated to launch on Valentine's Day 1994 as a multiplexed channel from American Movie Classics, the new 24-hour "superniche" service is designed specifically to be launched on cable tiers in the new regulatory environment, said AMC president Joshua Sapan.
