New York activist Rev. Al Sharpton recently was honored by Black leaders and politicians who praised him as a dedicated leader who remains steadfast in the struggle for equality.
New York City Councilman Adam Clayton Powell IV presented the "National Action Network Dr. Martin Luther King Jr./Adam Clayton Powell Memorial Award" to Sharpton.
Powell, the son of the late congressman Powell, stated, "No activist in the last 10 years kept our issues more on the front burner than Al Sharpton. Sharpton, paying a high price (stabbings, indictments, ridicule) like my father and Dr. King, kept the movement on the front and made the powers-that-be deal with us. ...
