Let the planning for Elgin's first all-inclusive veterans memorial begin.
City council members voted unanimously Wednesday to allow the former public works property just north of the Gail Borden Library along the Fox River to be used as the future site of a veterans memorial.
"It's a beautiful location, and it's the right location," Councilman John Walters said.
Originally, a 40-foot-by-80-foot site along the riverfront west of the library was set aside for a veterans memorial.
But members of the veterans memorial committee voted in July that the site was too small.
