HANOI, Sept 30 Asia Pulse - Private and State-owned companies say they expect to reap profits from their investments in new hydro-power plants because of the growing demand of electricity in Vietnam.

Much of their investment is in small- and medium-sized hydropower plants.

The private Dac Lac-based Hoang Nguyen Ltd, a wood producing and processing company, is spending VND278 billion (US$17.6 million) to build two hydro-power plants in Dac Ru and Quang Tin in the Central Highlands province of Dac Nong.

Construction on the 7.2MW Dac Ru and the 5MW Quang Tin plants began in October last year, with the plant operational in June 2006.
