OVERVIEW:
China's consumer retail sales hit 2.961 trillion yuan (US$365.1 billion) in the first half of this year, according to statistics from the National Bureau of Statistics. This represents an on-year rise of 13.2 per cent.
First half growth was 1.8 per cent higher than in 2004, the fastest rate of growth since 1997.
