Governor defends plan to make I-69 a toll road.

Sep. 30--When it comes to Interstate 69 being built as a toll road, Gov. Mitch Daniels' position is that "it's a toll road or no road."

Daniels visited Bloomington Thursday to hype his proposed new 10-year highway construction program. He met face-to-face with its opponents, something they told him they appreciated.

Not that he agreed with them -- on I-69 being needed at all, or being built as a toll road, or being built via a possible public-private partnership.

When Bloomington Alternative editor Steven Higgs asked how Daniels could continue to push I-69 when Bloomington clearly is opposed, Daniels didn't flinch.
