PROJECT OVERVIEW:
Rising demand for flat TVs has prompted the Board of Directors of the local SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO. to approve the company's proposed $1,700,000,000 manufacturing capacity expansion plans. The money is expected to be invested in order to build a new 7-2 LCD line, which is geared to make TV panels sized 40- and 46-inches diagonally.
However, no details have yet been released regarding the project's implementation time frame. In any case, SAMSUNG announced in July 2005 that it plans to almost double LCD capital expenditure this year to $2,775,000,000 compared with $1,415,000,000 in 2004.
