A young man recently wanted to know what I thought of registering for housewarming gifts. He was planning to invite his colleagues and associates to celebrate his new home.
In the workplace, registering can be a minefield. It's somewhat the same principle as having your arm twisted to participate in departmental birthdays and other occasions. The chief difference is that with a registry, the recipient can tally up the haul and keep score. Why not just give out deposit slips?
Go ahead, call me a dinosaur. I think that housewarming registries are crass because they smack of "housewarming as fundraiser" attitude. OK, so ...
