Oct. 4--Independence Air, the discount-fare airline struggling to avoid bankruptcy, will reduce its five daily flights at the Portland International Jetport to two, beginning Nov. 1.
The cutback is part of a broad restructuring to fight high fuel and operating costs by eliminating some routes, flying fewer regional jets and trimming the number of daily departures by more than half.
The changes are taking place systemwide, according to Rick DeLisi, a spokesman for Independence Air. There are no plans to stop flying out of Portland, he said.
