Oct. 4--TOKYO -- Japanese supermarket chain operator Aeon Co. said Tuesday its group net loss came to 20.27 billion yen for the fiscal first half through Aug. 20 due to early application of its asset impairment accounting.
But its group pretax profit gained 5.7 percent from the year before to 73.14 billion yen on a 4.4 percent rise in sales to 2,147.42 billion yen, respectively all-time highs.
It also posted a record-high group operating profit of 69.10 billion yen, up 8.9 percent.
Aeon said it booked an extraordinary loss of 76.86 billion yen under the asset impairment accounting method, resulting in the huge group net loss.
